Bridal & Formalwear

The dress should fit you, not the other way round.

Wedding dresses, quinceañera gowns, prom, and formalwear are handled personally by Liz — the same hands that build couture for the New York Fashion Week runway.

Bridal work is done over multiple fittings, because a gown that fits in March may not fit in June. Bring the shoes and undergarments you plan to wear; the hem depends on them.

Start early if you can. Six to eight weeks before the date is comfortable. Less than that is often still possible — just ask.

Questions

Before You Ask

How much do alterations cost?
It depends entirely on the garment and the work involved — a simple hem is not the same job as reconstructing a bodice. Send photos through the form below and we'll quote you before any work starts. No surprises on the invoice.
How long does it take?
Most standard alterations are turned around in one to two weeks. Bridal and formalwear need longer because they usually involve multiple fittings. If you have a hard date, tell us — we'll say honestly whether we can meet it.
Do you alter wedding dresses?
Yes, and it's some of our favourite work. Bridal alterations are handled personally by Liz, with fittings at the studio. Bring the shoes and undergarments you'll wear on the day — the fit depends on them.
Can you take in a dress you didn't make?
Of course. Most of what comes through the door was bought somewhere else. Off-the-rack pieces are cut for an average body, and almost nobody is average — that's exactly what alterations fix.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk in Saturday between 10am and 2pm, or Sunday 10am to 12pm. Weekdays are by appointment. Submitting the form first means we've already seen photos before you arrive, which usually saves a trip.
Do you offer rush service?
Often, yes — depending on what's already in the queue. Rush work may carry an additional fee, and we'll quote it before starting. Ask early rather than late.

We're a working atelier on N Cotton Street — not a drop-off counter. Your garment stays in the building, and the person who quotes it is the person who sews it.
